Trust
The guys Bible study group is going through a book called "By This Name" by John R. Cross. It gives and overview of the Bible in chronological order to help show how the parts of the Bible all fit together as a whole.
Lately we have been looking at the beginnings of man and our struggle with doubting God; trusting the enemy, instead of the One who created us. As we are all aware of to some degree or another, all good relationships have a solid trust supporting them. Healthy family relationships are connected to trust. Strong, unbreakable friendships are built on trust. Without trust any relationship is weak at best.
God has given man the choice to trust Him. God gave Adam the choice to trust Him about the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Trust God, don't eat of that tree, and all will be well. Doubt God, and try the fruit anyway and the consequence is death. (Check out Genesis 2:9,16-17 and Genesis 3:1-6, then also note Romans 1:25) There are other instances in the Bible where man is given a choice to trust God and do something as He instructs or to try to do it another way. One example is Noah and the ark. We're all familiar with the story. Noah could have easily doubted God when He told Noah to build the ark. The earth had never flooded before; how could it possibly happen? Noah had to take God at His word and do as God instructed Him to do.
God has made it clear that faith in Christ is the only way to be right in the eyes of God. John 14:1-6 and Ephesians 2:1-10 are among many passages that speak to that effect. We have all been faced with a choice. Trust that God's way, communicated through the Bible, is the way to God or that I can figure out another way.
